An industry reading of A Prehistoric Ritual, a new play by Tim Pinckney (Halston), will be given April 22 at 2 PM at Open Jar Studios.

The cast will include Andréa Burns (The Notebook), Brandon Contreras, Colin Hanlon, Robert Sella, and Nick Westrate. Peter Flynn is directing.

The play centers on Rick, rehearsing a production of Cabaret while simultaneously trying to juggle his duties as best man for his best friend's upcoming wedding. After discovering a secret about the soon-to-be married couple, Rick blabs to the wrong person, ultimately testing several long-time friendships. Oh, and Rick is having recurring sex dreams about Cabaret's source material writer Christopher Isherwood.

Pinckney received a Writers Guild Award nomination for his work on the writing team of Netflix's Halston. His earlier plays include Still at Risk, Ever So Humble, Message to Michael, A Perfect Blendship, and First Refusal. He also penned concert adaptations of Funny Girl, Chess, Hair, and On the Twentieth Century for the Entertainment Community Fund.

A Prehistoric Ritual

A full length play, 4 men, 1 woman

Rick is an actor who is in rehearsals for a  production of Cabaret. He is also his best friend Jeremy’s best man for his upcoming wedding to Andrew. When Rick discovers a secret about the couple’s relationship, he shares it with Becca, the wedding planner and Andrew’s best friend and the surprising consequences rock these long-time friendships.  A Prehistoric Ritual follows Rick’s struggle to protect his best friend while dealing with rehearsals and recurring sex dreams about Christopher Isherwood.

A Prehistoric Ritual hilariously explores the boundaries of friendship as well as those things that we won’t forget, but definitely might regret what we did for love.
